Commissioner Jim Bernard Announces Bid for Re-election
Position 5 Non-partisan Seat for 2010
Milwaukie, OR - Clackamas County Commissioner Jim Bernard announced today that he will be a candidate for a four-year term on the new five member Clackamas County Commission in an announcement at the Bernard Family Garage in Milwaukie.
The former eight-year Milwaukie Mayor was elected to a two year term on the Clackamas County Commission in November 2008, which will expire in January 2011. The staggered two year term was put in place to assure a smooth transition when the Clackamas County Commission went from three to five members in 2008.
"Today I am announcing my candidacy for a four-year term on the newly formed five member Clackamas County Commission" Commissioner Bernard said in a written statement. "There is much to do to create jobs in this economic recession and to assure the cost effective management of Clackamas County Government. I am very pleased to be working with a harmonious and productive Commission which is making improvements in how Clackamas County Citizens are served by their hard working local government."
The re-election announcement was held at the Bernard Garage in downtown Milwaukie, a site where Jim, his father and grandfather have operated a small business since 1925. "For three generations, twenty six years in my case, our family has operated a garage to meet the automotive needs of Clackamas County citizens. Ingrained in this experience is a sense of service to the public, hard work and commitment to the needs of our community and our citizens. I bring these values to my role as Clackamas County Commissioner for another four year term."
Commissioner Bernard serves in a long list of public services roles: a member of the Clackamas County Budget Committee, the first Chair of the Audit Committee, a Director of the Oregon Association of Counties, a Board member of the national Association of Counties and a member of the National Association of Counties Economic and Community Development subcommittee, Clackamas County Coordinating Committee Co-Chair and liaison to the Clackamas County Fair.
Commissioner Jim Bernard's re-election is endorsed by all of the other four Clackamas County Commissioners: Chair Lynn Peterson, Commissioners Lehan, Austin and Linniger and a long list of elected officials and community leaders.
